Detective Pikachu Sequel Lands an Unexpected Director

Jonathan Krisel, co-creator of Portlandia, is currently in talks to purchase the Pokemon Detective Pikachu sequel from Rob Letterman.

The eagerly awaited Pokemon Detective Pikachu sequel is currently in the final stage of its director.

According to Deadline, Jonathan Krisel has been in talks with Legendary Pictures to take over the direction of the sequel to smash 2019. Krisel is most well-known for his work on television comedy. He was the co-creator and director of episodes for IFC’s Portlandia and FX’s Baskets as well as segments of Funny or Die Presents. The debut of his feature-length directorial debut was announced in the year 2019, however, no announcements have been announced about the project.

Rob Letterman directed the first Detective Pikachu and loosely based it off of the game of 2016. The plot revolved around the story of a teenage boy known as Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) who investigates the mystery surrounding the disappearance of his father had disappeared from. He was able to solve the mystery with the assistance of the help of a Pikachu ( Ryan Reynolds ) which only he can comprehend. The film received favorable reviews for the lead actors in the film as well as the humor and CGI renderings that depicted Pokemon in a real-life setting. The film grossed $433 million globally and is considered to be one of the top films in the category of films that are based on video gaming.

Nintendo’s Upcoming Films

Legendary has revealed that the Detective Pikachu sequel was being planned prior to the time that the first film was released, however, no further details were made known at the moment. Smith said he didn’t think the sequel to be released in 2021. Smith said, “I think it is better to put our hopes to rest.” It’s not likely, I believe. It’s something I’d like to see, however. Legendary representatives revealed in the past year that Detective Pikachu 2 was in active development. It is also reported that Nintendo is near to completing work on the sequel Pokemon game. It is anticipated to be released on the Switch will launch it.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is Nintendo’s next attempt to bring its characters to the big screen. The film stars Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy along with Jack Black, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, and Charlie Day. The film is set to be released on the 5th of April.

There isn’t a release date for the Detective Pikachu sequel.
