Outrage Among Dragon Ball Fans as Female Characters are Limited to Housewife Roles

Akira Toriyama, the writer of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 2, is making fans furious because of his frequent domestic treatment of his female characters.

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball franchise is one of anime/manga’s most popular. But, fans are furious at his treatment of female characters in the new chapter.

Dragon Ball Super’s most recent manga chapter has faced backlash on Twitter. This is due to concerns regarding the creation of Mai. Young Trunks were assured by Pilaf Gang members they could go on as many dates as they like as their relationship develops. Some fans are concerned about her future because it is a common occurrence for the characters to eventually marry. It is becoming increasingly apparent that she might lose her multifaceted and complex growth and be forced to become a housewife, just like other Dragon Ball female characters.

Dragon Ball’s Housewife Symbol

Many criticized Toriyama for repeatedly placing female characters in the position of a housewife. Videl Bulma, Chi Chi, and Bulma are examples of such a pattern. They all married male characters, and their strong characterizations were often overshadowed and criticized by their spouses. One Twitter user expressed concern for other female characters’ futures, naming Kale and Caulifa among the potential victims of the housewife-development curse.

The story is developing, so Mai’s future looks uncertain. Many readers are tired of this repetitive trope, however. Viz Media will bring the next chapter to you on March 19, and fans hope for an original development.

Dragon Ball was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1984. It continued until 1995. The manga inspired many sequels and spinoffs. The original story is about Son Goku, a young fighter, who was trapped in a Saiyan Pod and fell to the Earth. This led to him trying to improve his fighting skills and find the Dragon Balls. Since then, the series has seen a lot of growth and added many characters. The latest Dragon Ball Supermanga chapter focuses on Trunks & Goten as teenagers. While Goten attempts to take Mai out on a date, Trunks constantly tries to get Mai out.

The anime adaptation of Dragon Ball Super returns in 2023. Crunchyroll has 131 existing episodes. On March 4, 2023, viewers will also be able to enjoy the English dub on Toonami of the Toriko-x One Piece x Dragon Ball Z crossover.
